Shane Warne is considering coming out of retirement

Shane Warne is considering coming out of retirement to play in Australia's Big Bash Twenty20 competition.

Warne, 42, quit Test cricket in January 2007, before giving the game up entirely after captaining Rajasthan Royals in the 2011 Indian Premier League.

But on his Twitter page, Warne wrote: "Re big bash- yes keen to be with a team, play a few games.

"Help off field & help the younger players learn the game - could be fun."

With 708 victims, Warne is second in the all-time list of Test wicket-takers, behind Sri Lanka's Muttiah Muralitharan on 800.

The Big Bash has been revamped for 2011-2012, changing from a six-team tournament into an eight-team event.

Warne would likely play in Melbourne, where there are two teams based - the Stars and the Renegades.

The Stars are captained by Australia's Twenty20 skipper Cameron White and their overseas player is Sussex all-rounder Luke Wright.

Andrew McDonald, who played in Leicestershire Foxes' Friends Life t20-winning side, captains the Renegades, who have Pakistan's Shahid Afridi and Abdul Razzaq as their overseas players.

The first game of the tournament is on 16 December when Sydney Sixers face Brisbane Heat at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
